Beta testing is, simply put, the final stage of application development carried out by a party unconnected with the development process. Our private beta testing helped shape the product you use today, and our testers also took the time to ask serious privacy questions.
Does Gran360 store my origin and destination addresses when I create a monitored journey?
No. We do not store these addresses, as our monitoring model does not require us to. Instead, we process both addresses through the Google Maps API solely to obtain an approximate latitude and longitude, rounded to two decimal points. These coordinates are then processed using Uber’s H3 library to generate a 9th-resolution H3 index. The resulting hexagon covers between 5 and 20 buildings, depending on the housing arrangements in the area. We do not store your raw, precise addresses — we simply mark a zone around you.
How can Gran360 tell when I leave my house and arrive at work?
The app determines your departure and arrival based solely on when you enter or exit your H3 zones. With privacy at its core, location tracking only begins when you leave the origin zone and stops as soon as you enter the destination zone. In practice, each zone may cover your entire street and a neighbouring street.
What happens to the location data collected?
We aggregate the data to provide you with speed, distance, and battery information. Upon arrival — well before you reach your front door — the moment you enter the destination H3 hexagon, we automatically begin aggregating the collected data to produce a Journey Summary, which is accessible to you at any time. Once the summary is created, all location data is permanently deleted.
Your Journey Summary includes maximum and average speed, low battery alerts, and the distance covered during your journey.
